Number 1 recruit out of High School. Produced 1,034 rushing yards as a freshman and 1,953 with 22 rushing scores as a sophomore. Missed 5 games due to left ankle injury his junior season. Finished with 843 yards (6.5 per carry) and 8 scores. Beat the brakes off Ole Miss with 284 yards on 16 carries and scoring on three long runs.
Possesses a rare combination of power running with breakaway speed. Elite pass protector. Quickly diagnoses and removes the blitzing defender from play (approaching Marshall Faulk pass protection skills). Hits the hole and turns on the jet speed. Dangerous in open space. Punishes the secondary, and has a very good stiff arm. Can break tackles with a beautiful spin move.
Needs to do a better job securing the catch with both hands. Too many attempts of one-handed catches ending in drops. Needs to learn when to give up on a play (see five yard loss due to dancing, 2016 vs. Alabama).
Possesses Adrian Peterson ability to run between the tackles. He catches the ball well when he uses both hands. His quarterback will feel very safe with Fournette in pass protection. He is the best back in this draft class, and no one else is a close second.
Leonard Fournette can take over a game, and he might be the best back to enter the draft since Adrian Peterson. It would be surprising if he is not off the board in the first hour.
