Mitchell Trubisky Scouting Report

Prospect Information

Combine Stats

Overview
Saw reserve action in 2014 and 2015. Took over as starter in 2016 throwing for 3,748 yards and 30 touchdowns against only 6 interceptions. Showed a lot of poise in the comeback win over Pitt (down 13 in the 4th) completing three 4th down conversions on the final drive. Sported 13 passing touchdowns to no interceptions going into the Virginia Teach game, but had a rough outing against the Hokies (in the pouring rain) completing only 39% of his passes and throwing two picks.

NFL Comparison
Ryan Tannehill

Strengths
Athletic dual-threat quarterback. Outstanding accuracy with short to intermediate passes. Moves well in the pocket. Quick release, and good enough throwing mechanics to work with. Does a good job looking down the field and stays ready-to-throw while scrambling. Throws a good fade.

Weaknesses
One year starter in a spread offense. Hasn’t played under center since middle school. Struggles with accuracy on deep throws, and needs to lead receivers more. At times he puts too much air under the ball giving the defender time to get back into the play. Needs to do a better job at reading the blitz and finding the hot route.

Summary
Trubisky has an NFL caliber arm, and can make all the throws. He is tough. Sometimes hanging in the pocket too long and taking big shots. He lacks experience and that makes him an NFL project. Has the tools play in the NFL, but it might take some time to polish him up. Very similar traits to Ryan Tannehill coming out of college.
