Derrius Guice saw action in 12 games, playing behind Leonard Fournette as a true freshman (2015). Finished with 436 yards on 51 carries (8.5 avg.), and scored 3 rushing touchdowns.
With Fournette injured in 2016, Guice got his opportunity and started 6 games. Led the SEC in rushing and rushing touchdowns. Finished his sophomore campaign with 1,387 yards on 183 carries (7.6 avg.), with 15 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown.
Ran for 1,251 yards on 237 carries and scored 11 rushing touchdowns in his junior year (2017).
Strong and powerful runner. Has breakaway speed to take one small opening the distance. He will lower his shoulder and bring the physicality. Breaks a lot of tackles. Is capable of creating his own success.
Dealt with injuries for most of 2017 and did not hit the hole with the same explosion as he did in 2016. Needs to improve in pass protection. Has absolutely whiffed on some blocks that should be relatively easy for him to make. Needs to improve as a route runner out of the backfield.
Derrius Guice played through injuries in 2017, and his numbers were slightly down. He clearly was not the same player. He is a very tough runner who looks to run over defenders more than elude them. He reminds me a lot of Marshawn Lynch.
11/24/2016 – Derrius Guice breaks LSU all-time single game rushing record with 285 yards in road win (54-39) over Texas A&M.
