Started 12 games as a true Freshman in 2015. Opened the season as the starter, but missed game at Stanford (10/24/2015) due to a right shoulder injury. Returned the following week against Arizona and threw for a personal best 4 touchdowns, and added another touchdown on the ground. Led the Huskies to a win over Southern Mississippi (44-31) in the Zaxby’s of Dallas Bowl. Finished the year with a 7-5 starting record.
Lit up the stat book his sophomore season throwing for 3,430 yards and 43 touchdowns with 9 interceptions. Led the Huskies to a 12-2 record, including a loss to Alabama (24-7) in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl – CFP Semifinal. Injured his throwing shoulder in mid November, and production fell off towards the end of the season.
Consistently demonstrates elite accuracy on short to medium throws. Is a very accurate passer on deep throws. Flashes dual threat traits. Plays through injury – see final three games of 2016 (injured right shoulder).
Has had two known shoulder injuries, and underwent surgery in January 2017 to repair right throwing shoulder. Doesn’t display a huge arm, but that could have something to do with the shoulder injury. More methodical than quick release. Below average height, weight, and speed for the position.
The shoulder injury will be a concern for 2017, but if he plays well and doesn’t have any setbacks then it should not hurt his draft stock. We’ll find out more about his arm strength in 2017.
