Redshirted his freshman year (2013) at the University of Tennessee due to a broken tibia. Left Tennessee in May of 2014 without telling anyone. When the school called looking for him, he told them he wasn’t coming back. He spent the 2014 season working two jobs. He detailed cars and powder-coating fences for Independent Fence.
Riley asked his high school coach to help get him another chance to play college football, and in 2015 he enrolled at Coffeyville Community College. Completed 225-of-332 passes (67%) for 2,942 yards, and 35 touchdowns to only 6 interceptions.
Transferred to Memphis in 2016 and had an excellent season. Completed 280 passes on 443 attempts (63%) for 3,698 yards, and 32 passing touchdowns against 10 interceptions.
Is a very accurate passer on short to medium throws. Is a very accurate passer on deep throws.
Below average height, weight, and speed for the position. His competitiveness and love for football will be questioned by NFL teams.
Riley Ferguson has used up 2 years of eligibility over the past 4 seasons, and played on 3 different teams (Tennessee, Coffeyville Community College, and Memphis). He’ll be 22 years old when the 2017 season starts. He gave up on football once, and that choice might haunt him for quite some time.
