Strengths
When healthy, James is an interchangeable safety and an absolute boss on the field. He has the physical measurements and ball skills to match up against pass catchers. Regarded as one of the hardest hitting safeties in all of college football.

Weaknesses
Suffered a knee injury that took away his 2016 season.

Summary
Derwin James is a gifted athlete. Overcame a knee injury (torn cartilage) that sidelined him for most of the 2016 season. Florida State experimented with moving him to linebacker, and it is not out of the question for an NFL team to attempt the same thing. Had a down-year in 2017 as he climbed back from the injury. Derwin had a very successful draft-season and performed extremely well at the combine.
